Prerequisites: No experience necessary although basic metal working skills helpful.
Come learn a variety of techniques for joining parts securely, without the use of heat or solder. This workshop will cover a wide range of mechanical joints that can be achieved with simple tools. We will be working with simple headed rivets, roves, blind rivets, tube rivets, coiled joints, mini screws, and much more. There will be practice samples, as well as the option for a finished piece of jewelry to take home. We will work with brass, copper and silver, as well as materials that cannot be heated learning how to determine the appropriate sort of cold joint for the materials at hand. No experience necessary although basic metal working skills helpful.
Materials Kit Includes:
Copper and brass sheet for making samples and a finished project time permitting
Drill bits
A variety of rivet-making components including silver wire
Students MAY Bring:
Objects or materials to practice riveting into place like leather, horn or other found objects.

Instructor Bio:
Bill Dawson came to art metals by way of blacksmithing at the University of Oregon. Since then he has been making a living with metalsmithing, both teaching and creating custom pieces for all manner of patrons. A close examination of metalwork of ancient cultures of Ireland has given Bill a deeper understanding of the character of the metal itself, as well as the aesthetics of the past.
