Artist Statement:
This brooch functions as a wearable catalyst for protest, designed to confront the ongoing human rights violations and systemic dehumanization perpetrated by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). Throughout global history, visual symbols and resistance slogans have been vital tools for exposing regimes of terror from the ancient demand to let my people go to the resistance against the Nazi SS. This is a visual call to action to stand against modern government sanctioned terrorism.
Artist Bio:
A Pacific Northwesterner, my work continues to be shaped by the region, environmental problems and political unrest. For decades, I have worked as multifaceted artist and jeweler, as well as an art educator, always exploring the many facets of the arts that inspire me. My pieces have been included in numerous exhibitions and shows and are part of several permanent museum collections. Alongside my studio practice, I am deeply devoted to education, sharing my passion for craft and creativity.
This brooch is part of the exhibition On Point: Brooches that Speak for Themselves. This exhibition centers on the brooch as a compact but potent site of expression. Each piece holds presence—visually, conceptually, or materially.
