Artist Statement:  
As a child in Greece, I watched kites rise into the Clean Monday sky and imagined freedom as simple and limitless. Now, living in the United States and watching events unfold around the world, I see freedom as precious, fragile, and never guaranteed.

My kite is divided yet joined by red threads red for revolution, and threads for the ties between us. It speaks of freedom of expression that makes room for other voices, respects people and nature, and honors our shared humanity.

Artist Bio: 
Vicky Zomenou is a Greek-born, Seattle-based jewelry artist and founder of Porpe Artifacts. With roots in painting, she has been making jewelry since 2006. Working with recycled sterling silver, gold-keum boo, she creates tactile, form-driven pieces shaped by Mediterranean memory and close observation of the built and natural worlds. Her work embraces texture, contrast, and character over perfection.

This brooch is part of the exhibition On Point: Brooches that Speak for Themselves. This exhibition centers on the brooch as a compact but potent site of expression. Each piece holds presence—visually, conceptually, or materially.
