One of a Kind
Artist Statement: The Impractical Teapot Series came into being during a road trip discussion with friends, where absurd ideas naturally thrive. Initially, most of these ideas were meant for ceramics, but the reminder of the Battle of the Rings sparked the idea for a metal version. This piece, my first metal teapot, was crafted with tools improvised to adjust to the smaller scale and giddy feeling you get when working through a new process while only sort of knowing what you're doing but doing it anyway.
Artist Bio: I am a mixed media sculptor and jeweler with an interest in creating work that explores our interactions as people with objects around us, specifically with the personal value placed on inherently non-valuable objects. I explore these connections by creating ornate containers and vessels for said objects. I received a BFA in Spatial Art from SJSU, where I studied woodworking, ceramics, and non-ferrous metalsmithing among other media which I use to create ornate housing for mundane objects.
