Artist Statement: 

Not all protest is public. Covert slogans have power, especially as they gain popularity and crop up in the most unexpected places. This piece uses 3 kinds of enamel--powdered, crayon, and paint.

Artist Bio: 

Rachel De Nys gets her design inspiration from plant forms, antique fonts, and images from medieval manuscripts. She loves fabrication as well as casting from wax carving. The submissions for this show are a result of her rediscovery of enamel work.

This brooch is part of the exhibition On Point: Brooches that Speak for Themselves. This exhibition centers on the brooch as a compact but potent site of expression. Each piece holds presence—visually, conceptually, or materially.
