Artist Statement:
No matter what may be happening outside your door or around the world, the basic truth of freedom is the same--that it is intrinsic to our nature. While we live out our lives on this big blue marble, meteors and comets streak through the sky and remind us of what we might aspire to and wish for.
Artist Bio:
Rachel De Nys gets her design inspiration from plant forms, antique fonts, and images from medieval manuscripts. She loves fabrication as well as casting from wax carving. The submissions for this show are a result of her rediscovery of enamel work.
This brooch is part of the exhibition On Point: Brooches that Speak for Themselves. This exhibition centers on the brooch as a compact but potent site of expression. Each piece holds presence—visually, conceptually, or materially.
