Artist Statement:  

Being invited to Dana's brooch show was so special to me. I wanted to create a piece about immigration and the sadness I feel about it. As individuals, we are united in our humanity. Every person deserves grace and dignity. This piece is about hope, support, and Unity.

Artist Bio:

Nancy Bonnema is a Seattle based studio artist with a passion for storytelling. Using calligraphic marking combined with the traditional metal smithing techniques and a love for enameling is her passion. She loves taking classes to enhance her growth and jewelry skills. Her narrative storytelling gives her great joy.

This brooch is part of the exhibition On Point: Brooches that Speak for Themselves. This exhibition centers on the brooch as a compact but potent site of expression. Each piece holds presence—visually, conceptually, or materially.
