Artist Statement: The hot Southwest sunshine is baking the desert, and the only shade available is a Prickly Pear patch. A snake hears your approach on the path, poking it's head out underneath the sharp spines to investigate... Is it friend or foe? Which are you?
Artist Bio: Emily Spykman is a jeweler, educator, gallerist and multi-passionate artist living in Santa Fe, NM. The inspiration for most of their work comes from minute observation of forms and textures in the natural world. Abstraction and extrapolation of those inspirational seeds inform all the work they make, be it jewelry, printmaking, sculpture, or painting— everything starts in nature.
