Artist Statement:
"25-26" is a biographical piece about the last year, positive experiences and tumultuous events. In it are images from shows we have been working on, visiting the Christopher Marley's "Exquisite Creatures" exhibit, daily walks in Seward Park observing the birds, our road trip to BC, Dan's semi-retirement, writing weekly to friends, reading, and protests against ICE at the No Kings march. This was finished in July 2026. Hoping for a better 2026-2027!
Artist Bio:
Cynthia Toops has been making jewelry for almost 40 years, working mainly with polymer clay. She started making micro mosaics in 1992, inspired by Roman micro mosaics and Huichol Indian beadwork.
This brooch is part of the exhibition On Point: Brooches that Speak for Themselves. This exhibition centers on the brooch as a compact but potent site of expression. Each piece holds presence—visually, conceptually, or materially.
