Artist Statement:  

Referencing the texture of vesicular basalt (a type of volcanic stone found throughout the PNW) and held in a simple, structured Sterling Silver cage, this brooch invites a view from all sides.

Artist Bio:

Gerber traverses the PNW, interpreting the wild spaces of the region through traditional metalsmithing techniques. Daunting peaks and endless vistas are scaled and broken down into comprehensible pieces, allowing manageable understanding. Textures and pieces of the natural world nestle into his work, highlighting the intimate story he seeks to tell of not only himself, but of the world around him.  

This brooch is part of the exhibition On Point: Brooches that Speak for Themselves. This exhibition centers on the brooch as a compact but potent site of expression. Each piece holds presence—visually, conceptually, or materially.
