Artist Statement:  My favorite technique is Keum Boo, an ancient Korean way of attaching pure gold to silver. My I think I am happiest when I cut the foil and lay out the pattern on my piece. The lotus pattern is one of my favorites. Lotus flowers are beautiful and represents resilience and strength and it is a symbol of hope.

Artist Bio: 
Carolina Andersson has been making jewelry for many years. Most of her training was in Milan, Italy where she lived for several years. Her work draws on a combination of Scandinavian, Italian and East Asian influences and techniques. Originally from Sweden, she is now based in the Pacific Northwest. She is represented by several local jewelry galleries.

This brooch is part of the exhibition On Point: Brooches that Speak for Themselves. This exhibition centers on the brooch as a compact but potent site of expression. Each piece holds presence—visually, conceptually, or materially.
