Artist Statement:  

I remember a time when I could vote but didn't. Perhaps I had less conviction than I do now, but it surely didn't feel so dire then. Today I vote like my life depends on it - like my kids lives depend on it. Every election. The outcomes now offer two very different versions of America. I choose to vote for the one where we work together, believe each other and treat our neighbors with dignity and respect. 

Artist Bio:

Cappy earned an MFA from SIU-Carbondale in 1999 and a BS in Art from the UW-Madison in 1992. She became a Professor of Jewelry and Metals at Edinboro University in 1999. Cappy exhibits and lectures about her work and research throughout the United States. Her pieces have been featured in, New Earrings 500+ Contemporary Jewelry Designs, Narrative Jewelry: tales from the toolbox, Behind the Brooch, 21st Century Jewelry: The Best of the 500 Series and The Metalsmith Book of Boxes and Lockets.

This brooch is part of the exhibition On Point: Brooches that Speak for Themselves. This exhibition centers on the brooch as a compact but potent site of expression. Each piece holds presence—visually, conceptually, or materially.
