Artist Statement: 
I had been deep in my exploration of stainless steel, welding and fabricating brooches and other wearables. While I loved many of stainless steel's attributes (strength, light weight), I was missing some of the richness brought to my non-ferrous work. So I set out to see if I could combine (weld) bronze, gold and sterling to the stainless. "Halo" was my proof of concept.

Artist Bio: 

Since 1984, Seattle metalsmith Andy Cooperman has made jewelry and objects for exhibition and commission clients. A creative omnivore open to any material, he treats all with care and respect: the hallmarks of Craft. 

Collections include the Victoria and Albert Museum, the National Ornamental Metals Museum and the Kessler Center in Puyallup. He has spoken for the International Society of Glass Bead Makers, the Eastern Carolina University Metals Symposium, SNAG, CoMA and the Yuma Arts Symposium.

This brooch is part of the exhibition On Point: Brooches that Speak for Themselves. This exhibition centers on the brooch as a compact but potent site of expression. Each piece holds presence—visually, conceptually, or materially.
