About the Work: "Kuroshio" meaning, black currant in Japanese, is the powerful ocean current that connects Japans seas. This piece is inspired by a Japanese textile that had curled ocean motifs and dolphins. I wanted to combine aspects of the textile design as well as bring in a Seattle-based inspiration.  This piece is a nod to the Southern Residential Killer Whales of the Puget Sound as well as their presence and movement.

Darci Bogdan Bio: Darci Shea is the Santa cruz-based sailor turned cloisonne artist. She studied illustration at Savannah College Art and Design and is the winner of the American Jewelry Design Council Jose Hess Award. When she is not making marine life and animal inspired jewelry, she's busy sailing in the Monterey Bay, educating people on the importance of wildlife and ecosystema and our need to protect it.

This piece is part of the Yukata Inspired 2025, a collaborative exhibition between Okan Arts & Danaca Design featuring jewelry and metalwork alongside Haiku from Haiku Northwest. Learn more and view the entire collection HERE.
