Cheryl De Groot | Black Hoopla
Artist: Cheryl De Groot
Materials: Shibuichi & Sterling
Dimensions: 3/4" wide, 1-1/8th" diameter
Origin of featured materials: Shining Wave Metals / Phillip Baldwin
Story behind the piece: The earring I was working on was too long so I thought "I'll just bend this around into a circle."
I've been buying mokume and other exotic metals from Phil Baldwin for 30+ years. His materials and patterns have inspired me to production and one-of-a-kind designs that otherwise may not have happened.
Artist Bio: Started making jewelry with two classes at Olympic College in 1969 and was hooked. Have been working full time as a designer/metalsmith since 1984. Between '69 and then I worked as a shipyard welder, cab driver, bartender and artist's model, among many other jobs.
This piece is part of, From Wave to Shining Wave: a Celebration of Phil Baldwin and Shining Wave Metals Baldwin. The exhibition is presented in collaboration with the Seattle Metals Guild. 5% of sales will be donated to help fund an endowment at Pendland in Phillip Baldwin’s name. Learn more HERE. All work will remain on exhibit through July 20, 2025.
