About the Work: "I grew up having cats and have two black cats so was especially excited to have chosen the cat fabric. I wanted a traditional bead necklace reminiscent of pearl strand in a modern application. The porcelain beads needed to be light so they were formed as two separate half’s then joined together. The fabric required that custom underglaze be mixed to get as close a color match as possible. The design of the fabric was transferred to the beads and each one applied by hand."

Porcelain is a great medium that can be both malleable enough to experiment with while having a luminous quality which allows spontaneity and shows vibrant color.
Each piece is hand made separately and then assembled. Some firing are done multiple times to add layers of extra color and texture.
