Artist: Jay McAleer
Materials: Sterling Silver/Copper Mokume Gane, Sterling Silver
Dimensions: (61.5mmx8.5mm) 2 3/4"x1/4"
Origin of featured materials: Shining Wave Metals / Phillip Baldwin
Story behind the piece: These earrings were inspired by the linear quality of Philip's ladder pattern Mokume Gane. As soon as I picked up the material, i knew exactly what I was going to make.
At first I was intimidated. I had to anneal the material while rolling it out to the ideal thickness and I was very worried about overheating it. Fortunately I did not have any problems and the rest of the process went very well.
