One of a Kind

Artist Statement: “Gem and Corn” reimagines jewelry as a living system. In this series, glass gem corn kernels are set as gemstones, transforming the ring into a form of “plantable jewelry.” If returned to the soil, the source material can grow and yield more future “gems.” Its radiating structure evokes sprouting, multiplication, and renewal, linking adornment to cultivation and proposing value as something regenerative rather than fixed.

Artist Bio: Xianbin Guo is an artist and craftsperson working in metal objects and jewelry. Trained in Biological Sciences at the University of Chinese Academy of Sciences, Guo brings biological knowledge into contemporary craft. Now an MFA candidate in Metalsmithing at Cranbrook Academy of Art, Guo explores nutrient cycles, interspecies relationships, and organic structures, creating work that invites audiences to experience the beauty, logic, and vitality of nature.
