Artist Statement: My inspiration for 1.618 came from contemplation, observing how plants adapt and find light using their wisdom of natural expansion. 1.618, or the divine proportion, is a mathematical number that defines the perfect visual harmony in nature, art and design. 1.618 was designed for meditation and reflection, a tool to help you return to the present. In this physical world, there is always space for surprise, wonder, and the unique magic of opals.
Artist Bio: Alejandro Palencia, Colombian artisan and contemporary jeweler, creates structured and symmetrical pieces using precious metals and hand-pulled wire. Alejandro’s early experiences as a street artisan have inspired his contemporary collections and his continued use of wire wrapping and filigree. The precision and movement can be attributed to Alejandro’s inspiration in pre-Colombian art and his admiration to the repetitive patterns in fractals, nature's sacred geometry.
