Artist Statement: In an age when science mattered more than myth, there were sky-watchers who saw what others had missed. Galaxies were not scattered like spilled salt across black velvet. They were drifting. Gathering. Standing beneath island skies, in a place where the heavens were not objects, but ancestors, they chose the name Laniakea. Immeasurable heavens. The celestial lines in this ring honor Laniakea; a living current of galaxies moving together to remind us that nothing in the universe moves alone.
Artist Bio: Laurie Davis is an Austin, TX area metalsmith creating one-of-a-kind art jewelry defined by celestial phenomenon, ancient cosmology, and the structured interplay of metal, texture, and stone. She fell in love with astronomy at an early age, staring up in amazement at constellations from her backyard swing. Her work integrates science, myth, and metal to create awe-inspiring jewelry pieces which evoke that same feeling of joy, endless possibility and childlike wonder.
