Yoko Rover | Kanzashi-hair pin

Artist:  Yoko Rover

Materials: Copper, silver, shibuichi and Kuro-shibuichi

Dimensions: 1 1/2"x2 1/4" length 4 1/2"

Origin of featured materials: Anne Wolf

Story behind the piece:  This billet's top layer is Kuro-shibuichi ( Black). I intentionally left some of the black top layer without chiseling to create contrast and it is successed.
First, tie your hair back with a band. Then just twist it up and scoop it into place with this hair pin.

I have been studied with a great teacher, Anne Wolf and learned about mokume-gane about 4-5 years. Mokume-gane is still distinctive in Japan, and I did not know it until I met her in 2018. Mostly I have made hair pins, pendants and earrings with chiseling, stamping and twisting pattern. Now I have confidents to chisel on large mokume-gane to create bracelet. Also learned making mokume-gane billet in Tokyo, and started to create own mokume-gane using Japanese alloy.
